Mekedatu
A 150-metre-wide Kaveri squeezed into a ten-metre granite gorge. 95km from Bangalore via Kanakapura.
why we keep going,
Sangama is where Arkavathi joins the Kaveri. Mekedatu is four kilometres downstream where the river narrows.
Take the coracle if the water level allows. The walk along the rocks is the better choice when it doesn't.
Carry food. The kiosks at the base are limited and the place runs on stamina.
local context
The name means 'goat's leap' in Kannada. From a local story of a goat clearing the gorge to escape a tiger.
