Bannerghatta
South Bangalore's day-out park with bus safaris through tiger and lion enclosures and a 7-acre butterfly garden.
why we keep going,
The guided bus runs a 6km safari road through enclosures with 33 tigers (seven of them white) and a lion section. It's still a zoo, not a wild park; manage expectations.
The butterfly conservatory is the underrated bit. Climate-controlled, around 48 species, easy 30-minute stop after the safari.
Closed Tuesdays. Go September to March for weather; aim for the 9:30am opening to beat the school groups.
local context
National park gazetted in 1974; the Biological Park split off in 2002 with the zoo, safari park, butterfly park, and rescue centre across 731 hectares.
