Chowdiah Memorial Hall
The 1980 hall built in the shape of a seven-stringed violin. Carnatic, Hindustani, jazz, ballet, all under the same curved roof.
why we keep going,
Actually shaped like a violin from above, complete with strings and bow. Probably the only auditorium in the world dedicated to a single musician.
Acoustics are good enough that classical concerts run without artificial amplification. Sit centrally; the side blocks have visibility trade-offs.
Calendar runs wide: Carnatic and Hindustani concerts, jazz, ballet, plays, ghazals, school graduations. Check what's on before you decide it's not your scene.
local context
Opened 1980 as a tribute to violinist Mysore T. Chowdiah (1895–1967), who pioneered the seven-stringed violin; the 1,100-seat building is shaped to match.
