Champaca Bookstore & Cafe

Women-run bookstore-cafe-library on Edward Road. Translation, indie publishers, a small kids' lending shelf, the city's best author events.

why we keep going,

No airport thrillers, no celebrity memoirs. The shelves are curated like a personal library, heavy on translation, women writers, and small Indian presses you'd otherwise have to import.

The cafe does proper filter coffee, a few cakes, sandwiches that hold up to a long laptop session. Soft seating, low chatter, no rush.

Saturdays are the day. Author conversations, kids' storytime, the occasional zine launch. Check the website Friday or you'll show up to a closed-room reading.

local context

Opened June 2019 by Radhika Timbadia, an ecologist who spent three years writing the business plan; named after Magnolia champaca and stocked heavy around ecology, queer writing, translation and small Indian presses.
